The design for this building sits on a stunning location to the West of Bali overlooking the sea towards Java. The desire has been to create a building which has a deeply symbiotic relationship to its surrounding landscape. Nearly all of its main construction materials come from natural sources from the timber structure, recycled teak doors and frames, to the rammed earth walls. This massively reduces the level of embodied energy used in a buildings materiality compared to standard components such as concrete, masonry and tiles. Along with the salient form, it also creates a seamless aesthetic giving the impression that the building has evolved from the ground.
